Life Coaching v Performance Coaching.... A Look at the Differerence
Life Coaching v Performance Coaching… the Difference
People often ask “What actually is a performance coach?” and how is it different from a life coach. It’s a very good question and here I share a brief view on the differences between the two.
What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is a generic term where coaches work with people on different areas of their lives. It is a way of working with a client, through quality questions and responses to move them forward in a desired direction.
Coaching, however is not telling the client what to do.
What is Performance Coaching?
I’m sure you’ve heard people say “Oh wow, what a good business, there’s so much potential in that area” or something like that.
In my opinion that’s wrong. Businesses have opportunities.
The potential lies within the people and the person running the business. The business doesn’t run itself and our results come down to how we perform and the often unseen or unknown causes that restrict us from reaching our potential, which usually comes down to how we think, our attitudes, decisions and the actions we take.
Our minds can either be moving us forward, or holding us back and the idea is to establish which and how to work with the mind rather than against it.
It doesn’t matter if you are a stuntman, a CEO or a pro golfer, your results depend on how you perform, often under pressure, whether that’s in the trading room, boardroom or on the golf course.
As T.Harv Ecker says “How you do anything is how you do everything
How does it work?
It’s a process of coaching and teaching, monitoring results, learning and adjusting, using what I have developed is the F.E.E.L. system to enhance performance and results. It all starts with discovery through awareness and the outline looks something like this:
Defining the vision and possibility of the future
What are their core values?
Where is the client at this time?
What challenges or obstacles are likely to hamper progress
What is their current mindset, attitude and emotional state
Who do I work with?
I work mainly with people in and around their business, with CEO’s, Executives, Entrepreneurs and aspiring and elite golfers. I help them get to a higher level of performance, and ultimately results in their chosen field whether that is in the boardroom, their business or the golf course.
Now you know the difference, the question is……..
Are you happy with your results?
If not, what’s hindering your performance and your results?
